e Australische psychrockband King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard kondigt vandaag het remix album Butterfly 3001 aan, dat voortborduurt op het in augustus verschenen studioalbum Butterfly 3000. De eerste twee singles Neu Butterfly 3000 - Peaches remix en Shanghai - The Scientist Dub zijn nu te beluisteren. Butterfly 3001 verschijnt digitaal en als 2LP op 21 januari 2022.
Van de 21 tracks zijn er 5 nummers enkel digitaal beschikbaar. Op het remix album vind je bijdragen van uiteenlopende producers en artiesten, waaronder DJ Shadow, Flaming Lips, Peaking Lights, Yu Su, DāM-FunK en Hieroglyphic Being.
Bandlid en gitarist Joey Walker: “We’ve put off doing a remix album for a long time. Maybe it was conscious, maybe it wasn’t. But it’s happening now. That’s not to say that Butterfly 3000 makes the most sense to remix. It might seem like the obvious one, but it’s not. Yes it’s electronic. But so is a fridge. Have you tried to dance to Butterfly? It’s hard. It ties your shoelaces together. It’s duplicitous in its simplicity. But Butterfly 3001 expands on this. It also deviates and obliterates. We’re honoured to have such esteemed people go to work on these songs. We hope you love this album as much as we do. See you in DA CLUB!!!”
Het achttiende studioalbum van de band, waar het nieuwe remix album op is gebaseerd, was een gewaagde sprong in het onbekende. De band componeerde een aaneenschakeling van nummers op modulaire synthesizers, keerde ze binnenstebuiten en vormde ze om tot uiterst verleidelijke psychedelische pop. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard toert vanaf maart 2022 door Europa, Zuid-Amerika en Noord-Amerika. In Europa zal de band o.a. op het podium van Primavera Sound staan.
