The album features music written by DeWitt for Netflix’s newest film starring Elle Fanning and Justice Smith. The score marks the latest in a long series of collaborations between DeWitt and the film’s director Brett Haley, who most recently worked together on the 2018 Sundance favorite Hearts Beat Loud. Making its debut alongside today’s preorder is the soundtrack’s lead offering “Wander” – listen here. Based on the bestselling young adult novel by Jennifer Niven, All The Bright Places premiered globally on Netflix Friday, February 28.
Of the soundtrack, composer KEEGAN DEWITT says, “Brett and I have a unique chemistry that becomes more intuitive with each project we work on (this is our fourth!). That being said, this project was special from the very beginning an unlike any of our previous collaboration for one reason: the orchestra. What began as a raw 30 second piano sketch captured on my cell phone, soon grew into an 11 minute suite of music, traversing a full film’s worth of emotions, all brought to life by a chamber orchestra. This was a special collaboration in that every scene we laid the music on, the images AND the music came to life and both worked in a way that seemed like they had never existed without one another. Much like Violet and Finch, the belonged together and were made better by having been together.”
