This year marks the 20th anniversary of the bands major-label debut album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and what better way to celebrate than with a brand new album. The album will be called “8”, symbolizing the infinity symbol and the number of albums produced.
The new LP, Incubus’ first full-length since 2011’s “If Not Now, When?”, draws on all manners of rock, with added world music and jazz touches. It is an explosive, tension-filled album laden with strong riffs and hooks resulting in one of the best of the band’s quarter-century career. The characteristically eclectic set even earned a late-stage remix from chart-topping DJ-producer Skrillex, giving a modern punch to the album.
Ever since forming in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas as high school students in 1991, the members of Incubus reached prolific heights as a band. They have spent multiple months touring and promoting their seven previous albums, of which six made it to top 10 albums on the Billboard 200. They’ve come a long way, with every song showing Incubus’ trademark, their great sonic diversity. As front man Brandon Boyd describes it: “We agree on a lot of music that we all love to listen to, and then we disagree on a lot of music. And then sometimes we’ll turn each other on to new music. So we’re drawing from different reference points -- not only sonically, but culturally and visually and artistically”.
Incubus will also embark on a North American headlining tour, their first since 2015, with special guest Jimmy Eat World beginning in July.
