KAAN Architecten is delighted to introduce the short film 'Crafted' on MINUTES series web platform minutes.kaanarchitecten.com. This film marks the second release for the eponymous series, consisting of 12 short movies directed by 12 international filmmakers and portraying a selection of projects designed by KAAN Architecten.
Starting from May 2021, one short film of the series will be released on the MINUTES website each month.
The movie 'Crafted' by South African director Benitha Vlok is a short poetic depiction of craftsmanship that holds hands with architecture and directly links to the humanity of the buildings we occupy. The film is narrated by Mozambican architect José Forjaz, one of the country's most renowned and prolific designers. The wisdom behind his words becomes a thought-provoking call to action for our era.
'Crafted' is filmed primarily within the clean architectural lines of the Netherlands Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique, along with various building sites & workshops around this vibrant city. The contrast and similarities between these worlds are bridged when the textures and sounds underscore a beautifully crafted black & white film. The film is now freely available worldwide on https://minutes.kaanarchitecten.com/.
Vlok, an award-winning director (‘Fortabt-Loss of Love’), conceptual camerawoman (‘Tom And His Computer – La Fontaine’) and intuitive editor(‘Tucker – Maggie Gyllenhaal’), has an eye that travels, captures and explores.
Since graduating as a documentary filmmaker in 2005, she has challenged, chased, and created layered visual content in collaboration with universally celebrated artists, filmmakers, and musicians.
Her body of work is extensive and expanding, continuously gathering unique collective and individual stories. A testament to that is her recent collaboration with KAAN Architecten.
Following film releases include'Utopia' by Joana Colomar and 'To Become One' by Romain Loiseau & Tristan Soreau in July and August 2021, respectively.
Besides the release of 'Crafted', the series will take part in a screening programme during the Rotterdam Architecture Month.The event is planned on June 26th at 19:00 as a joint effort between Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR), Galerie de Jaloezie and Roffa mon Amour. Five directors from the MINUTES series will present and screen their films during the event: Dorian de Rijk (Ruling), Mirte van Duppen (Territory of the Beings), Katja Verheul (Dynamo), Jaime Levinas (Notes on an Immortal Being) and From Form (Await)
