London math/post rock band Codices are set to release their debut album ‘Vivid’ will be on 15th October 2021 through Beth Shalom Records, the follow up to the 2017 EP ‘Illuminations’. Ahead of the full length release, the band have released another single, Chatbot Dialogue, to accompany the lead single, Machines Driving Machines.

The track showcases the band’s ability to meld together incredibly precise and calculated, diverse, and soft and heavy parts into one cohesive piece. Asher Kenton & Sam Festenstein’s guitar lines almost jar whilst intertwining, Michal Maryniak’s meandering bass lines threaten to burst out of the song, and Alex Mann’s pounding drums lock everything together.

Speaking of the track, drummer Alex Mann notes, “We wrote all the songs on this record as a unit. As a result, we have different members playing really weird, disparate parts. We painstakingly worked it through, over and over, making sure the parts worked together and in the end it all synched up. It was only when we went into the studio that I realised how completely different some of Asher’s guitar lines are to what I play on this track, but it’s all essential to the overall sound of the song. The crescendo in the middle is also one of my favourite moments on the album!”.

It’s a mean feat for a band to accomplish on their debut record; simultaneously varied and intricate but meshed together into waves of roaring riffs the likes of Brontide, Alpha Male Tea Party or And So I Watch You From Afar would be proud of.

The band have already made waves on the UK experimental rock scene, having played at festivals such as ArcTanGent, Portals and Upgefukt, and opened for the likes of Totorro, Hikes, The Fierce and The Dead and Alpha Male Tea Party.
