Rising duo Cherryade have unveiled the video to their new single ‘Empress’, produced and co-written with Eddie Serafica (Nadia Rose, James Bay). The song has so far received support from the likes of Buzzfeed, MTV Brasil, Kick Kick Snare, BBC Introducing and more.

Speaking of the video, Alex said: “We produced, filmed, directed and edited the video entirely ourselves, and we’re extremely proud of that as it really encompasses what the song is all about to us - being powerful, confident and independent”.

“We were really inspired by ancient Chinese empresses like Dowager Cixi for the video, and growing up in a multicultural Chinese Caribbean family, I was surrounded by strong women like my mum and granny, who traveled to various countries and overcame so much. We really wanted to address how women in power throughout history are often negated by men, and their successes often brushed over in favour of shocking scandals and rumours to damage their legacies”, said Ella. “We also needed a way to get me in the video, hence the twist at the end!”, joked Alex.

Cherryade have amassed a string of support from the likes of The Guardian, TIME, Spotify’s New Music Friday, PopJustice, The Line Of Best Fit, CLASH, Apple Music & more. Empress is released ahead of Cherryade’s forthcoming EP.
