Marleen Hoebe and Jesse Koch form the art pop duo Silver Lake and release their first single Under The Silver Lake today. The song was recorded in collaboration with Pieter Vonk.

Six years ago in the romantic, nocturnal setting of an old Amsterdam pub, the foundation for the new artistic duo Silver Lake was laid. After meeting each other there on stage, Marleen Hoebe and Jesse Koch decided to become partners in life and later in music. Just before the outbreak of the pandemic, the duo decided to explore the creative potential of their relationship more deeply, resulting in the poignant and atmospheric art pop project Silver Lake.

Like currents in the sea can bring new elements with them, new creative energy flowed which resulted in Silver Lake: inspired by their new hometown The Hague, the duo wrote new material on which they unleashed their compositional, textual and production magic. Parallels can be drawn with artists such as Alexandra Saviour, Lana del Rey and The Last Shadow Puppets - as well as old troubadours such as Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. With a nostalgic nod to the past but with eyes firmly fixed on the future and using modern production techniques in symbiosis with old analogue equipment from the 60s and 70s, Silver Lake manages to create a synthesis of a vintage, yet contemporary sound.

Inspired by the film of the same name, the first single Under The Silver Lake takes you to the waiting room of the subconscious; a place hidden from the everyday, which contains lost loves, hopes, dreams, fears and childhood memories you thought you had forgotten. "We were both really intrigued by this film. It constantly makes you feel like you're walking around in someone else's dream. The goal of this song was to translate the mysterious feeling of the film into music. Also, everything you see in the video for Under The Silver Lake is related to how you process memories and thoughts in your head; unpredictable images that at first glance look logical, but if you look closely they don't quite fit. Things that you can only create in your own head, because in reality they have no right to exist and would not make sense." Watch the video below.
