WESTERN STARS is het 19e album van The Boss en zijn eerste nieuwe studio album in vijf jaar tijd. De plaat telt 13 nummers en werd geproduced door Bruce Springsteen en Ron Aniello. Zijn inspiratie haalde Springsteen o.m. bij de Zuid-Californische pop albums uit de Jaren ’60 en de vroege Jaren ’70. Aan Western Stars werkten meer dan 20 muzikanten mee, waaronder Patti Scialfa, Jon Brion, David Sancious, Charlie Giordano en Soozie Tyrell.
Om de release te vieren brengt Springsteen vandaag ook een video uit bij de titeltrack van het album. De video is van de hand van veelvuldig Grammy en Emmy award winnaar Thom Zimny en toont The Boss in scènes geïnspireerd op de lyrics van het nummer.
