The Waves Pictures heeft aangekondigd op 27 februari een nieuwe LP uit te brengen, genaamd Gained / Lost. Het album combineert klassieke songwriting en krachtig samenspel met invloeden uit 60’s garage rock, 70’s classic rock en 90’s indie - allemaal doordrenkt met de DIY-mentaliteit die de band al bijna dertig jaar kenmerkt.
Hiervan deelden ze de eerste single Alice, die je hier op Spotify kunt luisteren. Het is een dromerige, meeslepende track geïnspireerd op het werk van schrijver William Burroughs, waarover de band toelicht:
“This song was influenced by the book ‘My Education: A Book Of Dreams’ by William Burroughs, which is a kind of dream journal, but written in clean, almost hardboiled prose. Alice takes place in a dreamworld. Burroughs might have called this world The Land of the Dead. There is a promise of ice cream in a world between life and death, a kind of holding station. Everybody’s spirit returns to the universe. There’s a multicoloured joy to the music, and a black and white strangeness to the lyrics.”
