Het duo Rio Kosta, dat bestaat uit Mike Del Rio en Kosta Galanopoulos, heeft deze week de groove-pop track Unicorn uitgebracht. Deze is afkomstig van hun gelijknamige debuutplaat, die op 19 juli zal verschijnen. Ze hebben pas twee tracks uit en worden nu al gezien als een belofte. Met hun zomerse grooves, mooie harmonieën en de heldere falset van Kosta doet hun geluid denken aan populaire artiesten als Jungle, Parcels en Tame Impala.
Wat begon als een eenmalige sessie tussen twee multi-instrumentalisten, groeide uit tot een muzikaal partnerschap vol chemie en creativiteit. Unicorn (luister hier op Spotify) was het eerste nummer dat tijdens die sessie ontstond, en legde de basis voor wat uiteindelijk hun volledige album zou worden. Hier lichten ze zelf over toe:
'What’s on the recording is the actual first time we ever played in the room together. We had no reference for what music we were going to make when we started, so it was questionable if this would be included. It took us figuring out what Rio Kosta was and writing everything else to come back to It. The end had to show us the beginning. It felt necessary to title the album “Unicorn” not for the sentiment of the song itself, but the way in which it was made and the purity of the fun we were having together creatively
Voor deze plaat werden ze geïnspireerd door artiesten als Jorge Ben, Idris Muhammad, War, Ebo Taylor, Crosby, Stills & Nash en The Beatles. Het levert een album op wat een mix van psychedelica, funk, old school R&B, disco en een vleugje Americana belooft te worden.
