Matt Bellamy over hun 7e studio album: "To me, 'Drones' are metaphorical psychopaths which enable psychopathic behaviour with no recourse. This album explores the journey of a human, from their abandonment and loss of hope, to their indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to their eventual defection from their oppressors."

De aankondiging van het de albumhoes en -titel ging twee en een halve maand geleden alvast niet onopgemerkt voorbij. Ongeveer alle nieuwssites sprongen op het verhaal over de projectie van de albumhoes op het Koninklijk Paleis, al was dat enkel een tussenstop op de route die begon onder de VRT-toren en eindigde aan de Boekentoren in gent. Nu wordt het lange wachten van de fans eindelijk beloond!
