De 25-jarige Australische singer-songwriter Matt Corby brengt vandaag zijn langverwachte debuutalbum ‘Telluric’ uit.
De afgelopen jaren heeft Matt in verschillende studio’s gewerkt aan het album. Een aantal jaar geleden deed hij al eens een poging en dat draaide uit tot de beste leerschool:
“I recorded an album two years ago that I didn’t like. For a lot of reasons I wouldn’t release it. It took me a year and a half to clear my head of everything that happened, accept my failures, reboot and have the balls to do it again.”
Voor het album ‘Telluric’ deed hij beroep op de producer Dann Hume. Elke song heeft hij volledig zelf gecomponeerd met behulp van instrumenten waar hij back to basic gaat. Zoals in de song ‘Monday’, daar hoor je alleen maar kick drums en geen elektronische samples. Het is zijn eigenzinnige aanpak om moderne muziek te maken op de traditionele manier.
“Nothing is played by humans anymore, it’s just robotic and I wanted to do the opposite of that,” he explains. “I wanted to make something that is worthy of being released but is all-human.”
