Vorige week vrijdag verraste R&B sensatie Mahalia met de release van haar nieuwe EP 'Isolation Tapes’. Normaal zou ze die dag haar 22ste verjaardag vieren op het podium van de prestigieuze Brixton Academy, maar daar besliste de huidige situatie anders over.
“Since being at home, I’ve spent a lot of time writing new music and listening to old music.” zegt Mahalia. “I found songs that I’d forgotten about, listened to them and fell in love with them all over again. In these uncertain times, when we have so little control over what is going to happen next, I think we have to focus on what we can control. Music is where I feel that most. And I’m so proud to be putting this EP out!”
‘Isolation Tapes’ is Mahalia’s vierde EP en volgt de release van haar goed onthaalde debuutalbum ‘LOVE & COMPROMISE’ dat ze vorige herfst uitbracht. Enkele hoogtepunten uit dit album zijn:‘What You Did (Feat. Ella Mai)’, ‘Simmer (Feat. Burna Boy)’, ‘I Wish I Missed My Ex’ en ‘Do Not Disturb’.
Eerder dit jaar sloot Mahalia haar uitverkochte ‘Love and Compromise’-tournee af waarvoor ze podia afschuimde in Azië, Europa, de VS en Canada. In 2019 werd ze door YouTube Music uitgeroepen tot “Artist On The Rise” in het Verenigd Koninkrijk en werd ze een genomineerd voor een BRIT awards in de categorie “Best Female Artist”. Door de NAACP Image Awards werd ze genomineerd voor “Outstanding New Artist”.
