Peter Kujawski, voorzitter van Focus Features, kondigt aan dat Focus Features is begonnen met de productie van Downton Abbey 2 met Gareth Neame's Carnival Films. De originele hoofdacteurs zullen terugkeren voor de tweede film die verwacht wordt op Kerstmis 2021. Naast de oorspronkelijke vijfsterrencast worden Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye en Dominic West toegevoegd aan dit vervolg.
Julian Fellowes, Academy-Award®-winnaar en bedenker van Downton, zal opnieuw het scenario schrijven. Emmy- en BAFTA-winnaar Gareth Neame en Emmy-winnares Liz Trubridgezullen terugkeren om de film te produceren naast Julian Fellowes.
Het vervolg zal worden geregisseerd door de BAFTA en Emmy genomineerde Simon Curtis.
