'Étrange Hiver' is the second single (and title track) of Tom McRae’s forthcoming 9th studio album.

As with the rest of the album, the single is with a French artist, in this instance Alex Beaupain. Alex is a multiple award winning composer and performer, as well known for his film and theatre music as he is for his own albums.

Says Tom: “I’ve been a fan of Alex for a long time, so to collaborate with him on this song was a dream come true. When I heard his lyrics I instantly fell in love, and this title seemed to fit the album perfectly. We live in dark times, the world is falling apart. We wait for things to change, but they seem only to get worse. We are all waiting for this crazy season to change, so we can wake up from this long, strange winter.”

Tom’s 9th studio album is an album of duets with some of his favourite French artists. McRae decided to collaborate on these 11 new songs with various artists as a way of acknowledging his deep love of French music, and deepen his relationship with mainland Europe, following Britain’s disastrous decision to leave the EU. Tom’s debut album went Gold in France in 2001, selling over 60,000 copies, and he has divided his time between Paris and Wiltshire since 2021.

Artists duetting on this album with Tom include: Keren Ann, Chien Noir, Clou, Alex Beaupain, Rose, Naya, Vanille, Helena Noguerra, Alma Forrer, Aïtone, Julien Brocal, and now more are lining up to sing with Tom on a volume 2.

Tom will play seven solo club dates in Belgium in March, Labadoux Festival in May, before returning to theatres in the autumn.
