Sons of Ghidorah is a New York-based heavy rock band born in the shadows of Gotham City. With roots in stoner rock and doom, Sons of Ghidorah have been compared favorably to bands such as Monster Magnet and Orange Goblin. Their music reflects a wide array of influences including Black Sabbath, The Doors, Scorpions, UFO, David Bowie and Alice Cooper; and the band also draws inspiration from both punk and progressive rock.
Sons of Ghidorah began as a recording project bringing together Christopher Konys, Mark Giuliano and Carl Pace (Eternal Torment), and in 2014 they released their eponymous debut. Drummer Mike Plewinski joined SoG, and they were invited to participate in the Days of the Doomed festival in Wisconsin. Chris and Mark, SoG’s core collaborators, have a long history of collaboration in bands such as Demented Dream States and Lucertola.
Band line-up today is:
-
Mark, lead vocals and guitarist, got his start in the 1980s singing in thrash bands in the Buffalo metal scene and in the 1990s playing guitar and writing punk bands The Almighty Fathers and Tension.
-
Chris is the band’s renaissance man, playing bass, keys, and guitar while also contributing vocals. Chris collaborated and played in the group Tango Down alongside David Reece (Accept) and Phil Naro (Talas).
-
In 2019, Michael Lillard (Mark Sinis & 825) was added as the band’s drummer.
Sons of Ghidorah has shared the stage with bands such as The Obsessed, EyeHateGod, Earthride, Spiral Grave, Mangog, Thunderbird Divine, King Buffalo, Gozu, Eyes of the Sun, Nightgoat and Clouds Taste Satanic. They have been a staple of Buffalo's Music Is Arts Festival and currently find themselves playing throughout the Northeast US.
