Capitane Records is thrilled to announce the release of SOLAK third single, Stranger Things, today. This marks the third single from his highly anticipated second album, Atlas, set to be released on November 15.
Stranger Things is the oldest song on the album. It reflects the feeling of always wanting more, of being different and new, and how to cope with it. It’s about listening to yourself give “good advice” to others but being unable to act the same way yourself.
“Musically, I wanted it to be light and playful, full of paradoxes, just as the lyrics suggest. That’s why the instrumental part, with a Latin flair, can feel like a bit of a kitschy puzzle to me. I’ve always wanted to include a two-part guitar solo, which has to be present whenever the song is played live. It feels very '80s, and I love combining that aesthetic with a sound that feels more obvious to my ear, like warm, saturated percussion... The production and recording process for this song was a lot of fun! This song holds a special place for me; it reminds me of my younger self, who is still within me, of course, but now in a more balanced way."
Lukas Somers takes on the daunting task of expressing the ineffable with Atlas, the second album by SOLAK. Striving to convey emotions that transcend language, Lukas seeks to create music that strikes a chord with anyone who listens. Stepping away from his background as a session musician and producer, he dives into deeply personal experiences, aiming to distill them into melodies that resonate universally. This journey follows his debut album, Green, which initially surprised SOLAK himself, prompting him to further explore the boundaries of his artistic expression.
Venturing into the Ocean Sound recording studios in Norway, accompanied by engineer Steven Van Gelder, he meticulously honed his sonic vision. Embracing both darkness and light, the album’s tracks showcase a wide emotional range, with the cohesive synergy of the band elevating the musical narrative.
SOLAK is not talkative and is wary of over-explaining, preferring listeners to interpret the music through their own experiences. Rooted in authenticity, SOLAK’s music doesn’t aim for commercial acclaim but rather seeks comfort and introspection, echoing the honest ethos of artists like Feist or Elliott Smith.
Stranger Things is out today via Capitane Records. The album Atlas will follow on November 15.
SOLAK will be performing live at Botanique on November 24.
