Following the announcement of Skalpel’s forthcoming album ‘HIGHLIGHT’, the electrified ambassadors of Polish jazz today release new single, ‘Arrival’. Continuing to showcase the broad scope of their creative universe, ‘Arrival’s’ delicate jazz breaks and soothing rhythm provide the next taste of the duo’s much anticipated fourth album via NoPaper Records / !K7.

““Arrival” is an evening breeze on a balcony in the city, a moment of silence after a long, hot summer day, whilst the birds are turning in for the night.” - Marcin Cichy, Skalpel

“It’s a memory of a colourful summer on a gloomy winter day, a reminiscence of a beach stroll with someone significant, whom you miss at that very moment.” - Igor Pudlo, Skalpel

Throughout the years, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudlo have been blending local, traditional jazz inspirations with means of new electronica. This original approach sparked interest of Ninja Tune, for whom Skalpel recorded two enthusiastically received albums ‘Skalpel’ and ‘Konfusion’. These paved the way for a Gilles Peterson Worldwide Award nomination, excellent reviews in magazines including NME, The Wire and DJ Mag along with a worldwide tour. ‘Transit’, Skalpel’s third album marked a significant shift in their creative style from jazz toward downtempo electronica.

'HIGHLIGHT' sees Skalpel take another turn to deliver their most comprehensive album to date, drawing influence from Miles Davis along with the musical legacies of Warp and Ninja Tune. Throughout ‘HIGHLIGHT’, Skalpel allude to Polish jazz and trip-hop whilst maintaining a fresh contemporary sound.
