DJ and presenter Ralph Lawson and stand-up comedian, presenter, and DJ Ben Randm, today announce the launch of their new podcast and radio show, Escape Pods.
Launching on September 30th via the Ibiza-based, alternative digital radio station and arts platform OpenLab, Escape Pods will feature 12 episodes as part of its opening series featuring Delia Derbyshire with Caro C, Suzanne Ciani, Scientist, Helena Hauff, Paul Hartnoll (Orbital), Daniele Baldelli, Crazy P, Keith Tucker aka K1, King Britt, Kate Simko, John Shepherd and Carl Finlow. Ralph and Ben will delve into each guest’s musical selections and records, as well as asking the question - why is there such a strong connection between music and space?
A musical journey through the cosmos with a different guest every episode offered a seat on an Escape Pod to leave our planet behind. Ralph and Ben will explore the music which each guest would listen to as they blast off, experience Zero Gravity, flyby the planets and make final contact before venturing on to explore distant galaxies and discover alien worlds.
A DJ and presenter best known for his long running residency at multi award winning Leeds club Back to Basics, Ralph Lawson also founded the internationally acclaimed 20/20 Vision record label and has been presenting radio shows for over 20 years including work for: BBC Radio One, BBC 6 Music, KISS, Galaxy, Rinse FM, Ibiza Sonica, and most recently, OpenLab Radio with Exit Planet Earth.
Ben Randm is a stand-up comedian, presenter, and DJ whose credits include presenting for, The Premier League x Coca Cola Trophy Tour, MTV, UCI World Cycling, Red Bull and Samsung. Ben has performed his sold out ‘Tales from the Universe’ comedy tour across the UK and Australia and has appeared at Glastonbury, Bestival and Burning Man.
The duo met on a film shoot recording the symphonic Opera North orchestration of Back To Basics classics in 2018 and clicked. They have since collaborated on; presenting the conference programme at Inner City Electronic Festival over three editions, the first ever Exit Planet Earth live event in 2019 and an OpenLab Radio Label Special on 20/20 Vision in 2020. Escape Pods is their first major joint production.
