Thirty years ago The Stone Roses played in a field in Widnes, Cheshire. Who would have guessed at the time it would go down in folklore as one of the most groundbreaking gigs in history? It was an event that defined a generation, reverberated around the globe and influenced music, fashion and the arts for generations to come.
This year would have seen a whole host of Spike Island celebrations but unfortunately given what’s occurring with COVID-19 all events are off leaving hundreds of thousands of disappointed Stone Roses fans.
However, Donnelly Brothers Anthony and Chris have hatched a plan to celebrate this anniversary in style with their brand Madchester.com, and footwear brand Size?, by producing a nighttime special indie and dance music event which will be broadcast on Saturday, April 18th via United We Stream Greater Manchester, (unitedwestream.co.uk), a new online streaming platform which raises vital funds for the city-regions creative community and the night-time economy.
Paul Oakenfold has kindly offered to dig out his opening set from the iconic gig to take viewers on a trip down memory lane - giving us the most fantastic reason to stay home, and by doing this, viewers will be supporting the NHS and emergency services. Paul’s set will be streamed live from LA and the event will take place between 6 pm and 12 am on Saturday, April 18 at UnitedWeStream.co.uk
