New Album 'Life is Short' Out Now

After releasing his new album Life Is Short last Friday, Mike Shabb returns with a music video for “Lonely”. Produced by Danny Ill, the R&B-infused track addresses the universal feeling of emptiness, that feeling when you have everything you, except for that one special person with whom to share it. The airy synth loops and 808 drums, reminiscent of the early 80's, give the single a melancholic feel and amplify the vulnerability that permeates Mike's voice.

With Life Is Short, his fourth record on Make It Rain Records, Mike Shabb delivers a solid album and steps out of his comfort zone. There is a maturity to his vocals, a personal touch to his lyrics, and a variety of influences that highlight his talent as a singer and a rapper. Since its release, the album has garnered praise from the Journal de Montréal, HHQC and Le Devoir, to name a few. Journalist Philippe Renaud said It's a success: the nine new songs can be played over and over again and will still reveal all their freshness. [...] After two albums in search of his sound, Life Is Short is a revelation.

This new album came about during a cottage retreat with producers VNCE CARTER and Danny Ill. The union behind these two creative brains made the 22-year old rapper think outside the box. For the first time, Mike Shabb performs over synthwave / 80s-flavoured beats by Danny Ill (“Back Home”, “Lonely”, Shine) as well as uptempo compositions (Slide, Focus, Jimmy Neutron). Life Is Short also includes a self-produced track – “Hesitate”, the album’s first single - which Shabb candidly qualifies as “drill-wave”. All tracks on the album have catchy melodies that accompany Shabb’s straightforward and honest flows.
