Melicious stands for girl power, cuteness, pop-punk and vulnerability. On November 22, Melissa Varela aka Melicious will release her new EP “Ugly Starts and Promises”. The new collection of songs follows the debut EP “Risky Business”, released in December 2022. While “Risky Business” was a heartbreak EP and explored electro-pop, the new tracks deal with themes such as family, loss, self-love and hope, embracing a pop-punk energy while also striking calmer tones.
“Ugly Starts and Promises” marks a more mature, self-reflective side and encourages us to look ahead even after difficult beginnings. The opening track explores these themes and the will to fight on: the pop-punk anthem “Awful Start” was created in collaboration with the Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo, as well as with Louis Keller (Gammakite, Lily Claire) and producer Dashcam Devi (Artbabe, Hatepop).
