On Monday, September 9th, 2024, the pre-orders for the second surprising album of the Maverick Persona project will be available on Bandcamp. This remarkable band comprises Italian alternative rock icon Amerigo Verardi and the young, talented producer Matteo D’Astore, a.k.a Deje. Just six months after their excellent debut album What Tomorrow? (NOS Records, MarraCult, March 2024), the Apulian duo is ready to showcase their astonishing artistic skills again with the single Bite for Freedom, which precedes their second full-length album, In the Name of, set to release on November 1st under NOS Records and MarraCult.
Bite for Freedom is a continuous and aimless escape, featuring a special encounter between a stray dog and a rebellious young man. Hungry — one for food, the other for freedom — they travel a long way together, ready to bare their teeth on this journey towards awareness. As with the entire album, the underlying emotional tension plays out in a lofty, psychedelic, and expansive manner, like a dream constantly interrupted by streams of consciousness that focus on the boy's experiences, a sacrificial victim of an irreparably deviated society.
With an uncommon coherence and originality, the eleven tracks of In the Name of throw the listener into decidedly adventurous, ever-changing, hard-to-classify, and contaminated soundscapes: a constellation of manipulated and deformed voices and sounds, serving often unpredictable compositional solutions: controlled chaos à la Brainfeeder Records, sound puzzles inspired by Brian Wilson's Smile, the electronic jazz of Flying Lotus, the shamanism of Nitin Sawhney, the anxieties of Lou Reed's Street Hassle and Berlin, and certain darknesses of the latest Bowie
Maverick Persona, literally "unlabelable personality," is the name of the project conceived by two Italian musicians: Amerigo Verardi, one of the most important artist in the Italian underground scene of the last thirty years (Allison Run, Betty's Blues, Lotus, The Freex, etc.), and Matteo D’Astore, also known as Deje, a young emerging talent in electronic and experimental music. Their debut album What Tomorrow? (NOS Records/MarraCult) was released in March 2024 and received positive acclaim. On November 1st, their second surprising album, In the Name of, will be released
