Holy Guacamole! To celebrate Alex Ovechkin breaking Wayne Gretzky’s goal record, and just in time for this year’s NHL playoffs, Brooklyn’s award-winning titans of kindie music, Rolie Polie Guacamole, are set to release “Hockey Night.” The second single off Rolie Polie Guacamole's upcoming album Rockamole, “Hockey Night” will be available on all streaming platforms on April 18, 2025.

Frank Gallo and Andrew Tuzhilin created Rolie Polie Guacamole in 2006 and since then have earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands in family music. With skills honed by nearly 20 years of working directly with kids, Rolie Polie Guacamole knows what families want. Their kid-smart, parent-friendly style dresses up original tunes with vibrant harmonies and deft instrumental layers, pushing the parameters of what kindie can be.

Recorded at the late Steve Albini’s famed studio, Electrical Audio, in Chicago, on the same tape machine used to make Nirvana’s In Utero, “Hockey Night” is a true all-ages gem, a family-friendly rock anthem that’s a breath of fresh air for the kindie genre.

Frank Gallo and Andrew Tuzhilin grew up in New Jersey in the ‘90s when hockey was king, thanks to popular films like The Mighty Ducks. They both played street hockey, and Frank played (and still plays) ice hockey. The New Jersey Devils were, at that time, one of only two sports teams based in Frank and Andrew’s home state, so naturally the two are active fans of hockey in general and the Devils in particular. Previously, Rolie Polie Guacamole has released many sports-themed songs include “Ay Batta Batta,” “Basketball Jane,” “I Love Football,” “Triathlon,” “Running Through America,” “Rodeo,” and “My Skateboard,” but never one about their favorite sport, hockey.

“Our aim with ‘Hockey Night’ was to make a song that could be used as a ‘goal song,’” says Frank Gallo. “In the NHL, each home team has its own song that plays when they score, and oftentimes there is a chant involved, just as there is on ‘Hockey Night.’ Recording at Steve Albini’s studio ensured that, while still being a family-friendly song, ‘Hockey Night’ would also rock hard enough to be played in an arena!”

“At Electrical Audio, we’ve always taken comfort in knowing we’d be using some of the same equipment that bands like Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, and the Pixies used,” adds Andrew Tuzhilin. “That really cranked ‘Hockey Night’ up to 11!”

Hockey Night” features: Frank Gallo, vocals/guitars; Andrew Tuzhilin, bass/vocals; Avery Brooks, drums; and Dean Jones, synth. The song was recorded and mixed by Taylor Hales at Electrical Audio in Chicago, as part of the Rockamole album, which will be released in September 2025
