Today, Los Angeles rock band Jawdropped are thrilled to announce their signing to Fire Talk Records imprint, Angel Tapes, and share their debut single/video, “Star.”
Jawdropped is the newly-minted outfit of Roman Zangari (vocals/guitar), Kyra Morling (vocals/tambourine), Sean Edwards (bass), and Joe Fastigi (drums). In the short span of 7 months, Jawdropped have built steady buzz in their hometown for their distinct combination of tongue-in-cheek lyrics and irresistible melodies, reminiscent of the alt-rock radio’s heyday.
Debut single “Star” is as catchy as it is clever. “Star” presents the classic tale of Small-Town Girl moves to The Big City to “Follow Her Dreams,” only to get swept up in the whirlwind that is Life and Partying in LA. “She found herself in Hollywood on a model/actor’s arm,” Zangari and Morling croon atop pummeling percussion and relentless guitar riffs, “She found herself in Hollywood doing cocaine at the bar — living like a star!” The accompanying video — helmed by Jack Dione of untitled (halo) — is deep-fried and hyper-saturated, a lightning-in-the-bottle distillation of Jawdropped’s freewheeling energy.

The members of Jawdropped each come off their own trail of past projects — Alms, The Shaking Hands, jerseygirl, Destiny Inn — but together strike a kinetic alchemy. Connecting through Los Angeles’ budding DIY scene, the members of Jawdropped assembled earlier this year, bringing mutual respect and admiration for each others’ work, and haven’t looked back since. Since forming, Jawdropped have maintained a sleek profile in Los Angeles, and have opened for the likes of Chanel Beads, Fish Narc, PHF and more. “Star” presents Jawdropped’s debut track — a thesis from their first year as a band — and injects ultramodern realism into the nostalgic sounds of 90s power-pop hits, at once familiar and fresh.
