Italian-American electropop duo I’m Not a Blonde release “Hip Hop in the Fog”, the second single taken from their new album 11 (The Art of Being a Couple). The track introduces the album’s first chapter, dedicated to the beginning of a relationship, shaped by nights out, attraction, and curiosity, and marked by a constant sense of suspension.
“Hip Hop in the Fog tells the story of the early stage of a relationship, made of shared nights, desire, and confusion, when the other person feels close yet still out of reach. It’s a dance-driven track that invites to movement, accompanying an inner dialogue of voices suspended in an emotional haze,” explain I’m Not a Blonde.
The lyrics portray this condition of uncertainty through a dialogue between inner voices, where contrasting thoughts alternate in a continuous flow: desire, jealousy, and anticipation coexist without reaching a final resolution.
Musically, “Hip Hop in the Fog” is built on a minimal, repetitive groove — dance-oriented yet restrained — that sustains a constant tension. The sound draws on ’90s dance influences, while the vocal layers in the chorus approach a trance-like dimension, intensifying the drive to move. The verses remain more contained, with almost whispered words that open into a choral chorus conceived as a moment of release and an invitation to dance.
The alternation between Italian and English, a recurring stylistic feature of the project, reinforces the sense of emotional instability that runs through the track. Within the album’s narrative arc, the song represents the first step toward building a connection: an initial phase charged with expectations and possibilities, where the relationship takes shape between idealisation and discovery.

ABOUT I’M NOT A BLONDE
I’m Not a Blonde is an Italian-American duo based in Milan, consisting of Chiara Castello and Camilla Benedini. Their elegant electropop - featuring ’80s-style synths and beats, ’90s Brit-wave guitars, and sharp pop melodies- strikes a perfect balance between the two personalities: irony and madness, fun and seriousness, minimalism and artpop, digital and analog. All of this is wrapped in a veil of melancholy that gives their music a distinct identity and unmistakable style.
Over the years, they have performed at various Italian and international festivals, sharing the stage with artists such as Duran Duran, Moderat, Soulwax, Peaches, Ghostpoet, Hurts, and many more.
Live, their sonic architecture—layered loops of vocals, guitars, synths, and electronic beats—fills the stage with the power and impact of a full band.
Their style has captivated world-renowned artists, who have chosen I’m Not a Blonde as their opening act in Italy: Franz Ferdinand in 2018 at Bologna’s Unipol Arena, The Killers at Rock in Roma (2018), Wolf Alice for their sole Italian date in 2018, and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park in 2019 in Milan and Padua.
