Acclaimed lyricist Homeboy Sandman celebrates the release of his EP Tears of Joy with a brand-new visual for "Artist's Creed." The result is a 6-track EP that feels both deeply introspective and universally resonant, bridging sorrow and celebration through music. Homeboy Sandman on the new video: "Just trying to fulfill my responsibility. I guess also trying to remind folks that responsibilities exist. I guess also trying to introduce some folks to the concept of responsibility altogether."
Written primarily during a cold, wet winter, Tears of Joy channels heavy emotions into something productive and life-affirming. Explaining the title, Homeboy Sandman says, “Tears of joy in the conventional sense is like being so happy you cry. That's not really what this is. This is like crying but still feeling joyful. The EP is kinda melancholy and feels more downbeat than a lot of what I put out. Still joyful though.”
On Tears of Joy, Homeboy Sandman collaborates with producer GUIDANCE (also known as Aether) who brings a different sound to the veteran emcee’s vast catalog. “GUIDANCE has a real kind of ethereal celestial sound doesn't he? Sounds like glass and crystal. I haven't rapped over any production like his. 18 years making music always on the lookout for new sounds.” Fueled by a streak of inspiration, Homeboy Sandman connected with a series of dynamic beats GUIDANCE sent his way, and the full EP took shape in less than a month.
Tears of Joy is a continuation of Homeboy Sandman’s monumental 2025 run of collaborative projects, with three EPs Dancing Tree with Illingsworth, Corn Hole Legend with yeyts., and Manners with Brand The Builder as well as his most recent full length album Soli Deo Gloria with Sonnyjim.
