Milwaukee hip hop duo Guerrilla Ghost have spent the last few months preparing audiences for the release of their sophomore album, We Get What We Deserve. The album’s previous two singles served as an apt introduction for listeners both new and old, giving them a solid overview into what it has to offer. The final single, “Algorithm Nation 1814” shows the group’s love of collaboration taken to new highs, employing the lyrical abilities of one of hip hop’s most iconic figures, Kool Keith.

Known for his vast discography as both a member of the Ultramagnetic MCs and a prolific solo artist, Kool Keith’s impact on the group is undeniable. “I’ve been a huge fan of Kool Keith since discovering his early solo albums” says Tron Jovi. “As we started planning this record, I reached out to Keith to see if he'd be interested in doing a feature. He responded quickly and expressed interest, so I told him I'd reach back out when it was time”.

Things changed slightly following the Shelter-In-Place-Orders enforced back in April, but as luck would have it, Keith had studio access and was able to contribute to the track. The result is quintessential Kool Keith; stream of consciousness-styled flows that weave in and out of the beat, while touching on the relationship between our daily lives and the internet in a way that only he could do. His feature is certainly the album’s most noteworthy one, and having him comfortably work his style into Guerrilla Ghost’s unique sonic landscape is a testament to both his gift as a lyricist and Tron Jovi’s as a producer. From a production standpoint, he blends an expansive range of sounds and textures, creating an ominous backdrop with a slight hint of melody that perfectly compliments the rhymes of both Kool Keith and Bad Graphics Ghost.

“Free thinkers are dangerous” screamed with extreme piss and vinegar is how Bad Graphics Ghost chooses to enter the track, sounding as smarmy and vicious as ever before launching into his own take on the culture and control of the internet. He chooses to rhyme right on top of the beat, which contrasts nicely against Kool Keith’s looser and more free-formed approach. The track’s extended outro wraps things up nicely, highlighting the track’s head nod factor. As the album’s final single, “Algorithm Nation 1814” gives the listener another look into the group’s finest effort yet.

We Get What We Deserve is set for release on July 31 via Triple Eye Industries.
