Faroese innovative jazz group GØ have announced their new concept album "Ævir, amen", which will come out on November 8th, 2024 on Tutl Records.
In their upcoming album, GØ introduce a Cinematic Contemporary Jazz tapestry that delves into the poignant cultural and political dynamics of the Faroe Islands. The album thoughtfully addresses sensitive issues such as Denmark's influence over the Faroe Islands, highlighting the ongoing debate around self-governance. With many crucial decisions about the islands currently being made through Denmark, the album reflects on the linguistic and cultural differences that fuel this debate, as well as the strong desire among many Faroese people to assert greater control over their own affairs.
After a somewhat DYI approach when producing their first album, this time around GØ have collaborated with producer Per Ingvald Højgaard Petersen (known for his work with Eivør, Lea Kampmann, EMP). This collaboration turned fruitful in elevating GØ’s sound, making it even more focused and unique. Additionally, the new album includes five-piece horn arrangements on several tracks, enriching the music with added complexity while preserving the integrity of the compositions.
GØ is a dynamic jazz group hailing from the picturesque landscapes of Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.
Founded in 2015 by a quartet of audacious young musicians, GØ breathes life into the music scene with their rebellious spirit and boundary-breaking compositions.
Drawing inspiration from the sixties and seventies, GØ's music transports listeners to a bygone era while infusing it with a contemporary edge. Their eclectic sound fuses elements of jazz, rock, and cinematic influences resulting in a unique auditory experience.
Since the release of their first album "GØ" (2020, I TUTL), the band and its sought-after musicians have become a vital part of the rapidly growing Faroese music scene. GØ captivates audiences with every performance through their infectious energy and flair for experimentation. The group's seamless interplay keeps listeners on the edge of their seats, always eager to see what will happen next.
GØ is poised to make a significant impact once again with ‘Ævir, amen’, an album that not only showcases their artistic evolution but also solidifies their status as one of the most exciting musical acts to emerge from the Faroe Islands.
