EP coming Feb 2020

Giant Swan return with their first new music almost a year to the day since their instant classic self-titled debut LP. "Silkworm" is a weapons grade, leftfield club banger, primed to cause delirious devastation on the dancefloor that we're all currently denied, and the initial blast from a 3 track EP coming in 2021, ‘Do Not Be Afraid Of Tenderness’.

Harry Wright comments: "The EP is called ‘Do Not Be Afraid Of Tenderness’, which I feel is something we can all relate to, but for me this comes as a result of a more personal struggle I’ve been exploring with regards to loss, consolation and serenity. It’s about accepting we’re all ‘under’ something in all senses of the word, through oppression and limitation in one sense of course, but in a more positive way it's about knowing there is love and help around and it will always find you if you can’t find it. This is also the first time we’ve made a whole record without seeing each other IRL... definitely learned a lot from that experience..."

Robin Stewart adds: "I found the writing process incredibly difficult because we weren’t able to see one another. An unusual lack of contact meant that mixing the tunes felt very raw and reactionary, which I felt actually made the experience an enriching one. Despite this it was a very powerful experience and one that has definitely resulted in some of the most personal music we’ve ever written."

The band will also be performing a special Boiler Room concert on Friday 27 November, the day after the new track drops. Harry comments: “We'll be streaming a new live set for Boiler Room on Friday, filmed at the Bristol Museum. To be in the presence of such ancient relics is not necessarily a new experience for us coming from Bristol (the land where trip-hop will outlive everyone by at least one thousand years). But it gave us the chance to create a new context for some older sounds from our album, as well as preview bits from the Do Not Be Afraid Of Tenderness EP. A new way of working for us, and one we feel is exciting and the start of a new chapter.”

Giant Swan are one of the most exciting artists to emerge from the UK underground in recent years. With equal appeal to fans of hardcore punk or noise-rock as club kids and clued up electronica fans, the duo toured relentlessly pre-COVID, playing everywhere from Berghain to Glastonbury to support slots with The Horrors and IDLES, and a series of 12"s on tastemaker labels such as Whities and Timedance leading up to their debut album. This first new music to emerge from the group in over a year epitomises everything that makes them so thrilling - mis-shapen techno textures, sub-bass and snatches of distorted vocals that create a unique interplay. Released once again on their own Warp-affiliated KECK imprint, and mastered by multi-disciplinary artist Russell Haswell, noted for his collaborative work with the likes of Aphex Twin, Mika Vainio and Merzbow.
