France-based post-punk quartet Ellen and the Boyz - led by Franco-British singer Ellen Wallace - unveils their debut EP 'SEXY BUT SAD' via French label Monomaniac.

With this debut EP, Ellen and the Boyz, shares their experiences through seven intense tracks - both musically and thematically - many drawn from the personal story of their frontwoman, Ellen: emotional dependency, mental health, violence, damaged bodies, and toxic relationships. The four musicians draws from rage and the urge to wrestle with their painful experiences. Their music is created collectively and instinctively, and shifts between dreamy, atmospheric pop, bursts of explosive sound, and raw, sexy punk/noise inspired by the UK scene (Idles, Ditz, Fontaines D.C.) - a scene that lives the stage with intensity. It can hurt, it can heal, but above all, it should make you dance like devils and love fiercely in the chaos.

'SEXY BUT SAD speaks to the paradox of our generation: the world is burning, and we’re taking selfies. On one hand, a youth that’s deeply messed up by the violence endured since childhood, by capitalism, patriarchy, social norms, and the image we have (or are supposed to have) of our bodies and faces. The constant injunction to stay young and sexy forever. And yet, it’s also a generation that, for the first time, is beginning to understand and acknowledge the situation - realizing the work that needs to be done to heal, to change how we exist and how we relate to one another. It’s sexy because there’s beauty in trying to show ourselves as we are, with all our flaws, scars, and traumas. It’s sad in its depiction of the world’s current state - bruised bodies, wounded minds, and the weight of a planet’s devastation, leaving us with the feeling of standing on the brink of apocalypse.' - explains Ellen and the Boyz.
