Filmed with an Orchestra at The Confederation Centre
PEI-based songsmith Dylan Menzie today reveals the live video for his latest LP’s title track, "Lost In Dreams". Dylan filmed the video at the stunning Confederation Centre of the Arts in his hometown of Charlottetown, PEI earlier this year with the Daydream Orchestra. Lost in Dreams is out now. Dylan says, “My whole life I’ve dreamed of playing my music with an orchestra, and as this record came together I knew I had the perfect opportunity to make it happen with the song “Lost in Dreams”. I mean, if my six and a half minute opus about cultivating your passion isn’t the right song for an orchestral string section, I don’t know what is.”
When starting work on Lost in Dreams Dylan found himself standing at a figurative fork in the road on his creative journey. One route would bring him deeper down the path of earnest folk music and the other would lead into more abstract and ethereal territory. Dylan chose to explore both paths on Lost in Dreams.
To enable listeners to get a feel for each different face of the record Dylan decided to release it in three parts. The first, released earlier this spring, focused on the poppier side of the of the album and was accompanied by the animated video “Wild”. The second part was the Faithful Spirits EP with the lead track “Have Faith” exploring the Country/ Americana side of the record. The third part was the LP Lost in Dreams with the title track video being shared today.
Lost in Dreams was produced by Hey Rosetta’s Romesh Thavanathan and features a revolving cast of collaborators. The album follows Dylan’s acclaimed 2018 EP As the Clock Rewinds – a collection of reimagined tracks from his breakout 2016 studio LP, Adolescent Nature. Dylan is one of Atlantic Canada’s most compelling and in-demand talents, picking up recent nominations in major categories at both the Canadian Folk Music Awards and East Coast Music Awards. He has also featured on CBC Radio 2's Top 20 and performed alongside artists like City and Colour and Ron Sexsmith.
