After completely selling out his first two solo May 2022 headline shows in Berlin within 72 hours, fast-rising indie bedroom producer DONKEY KID is pleased to reveal the video for his new single ‘Digging Holes’, released 24th June 2022 on all good digital service providers.

‘Digging Holes’ is the latest single to be taken from his debut EP Distant Shouts which is out now via EUPHORIE, following uptempo smash-hit title track ‘Distant Shouts’ and Kraut Rock and New Wave inspired ‘Necklace’.

Over the past year, 19-year-old Donkey Kid has released four singles and impressed magazines (Wonderland, Iggy Mag, C-Heads) and radio stations (Amazing Radio US & UK, Passport Approved, UK Student Radio Network) alike, cementing his status as the most exciting newcomer in German indie.

Influenced by Talking Heads, Tame Impala and King Krule, Donkey Kid creates opulent soundscapes, employing a mixture of modern Western and psychedelic loops on latest single ‘Digging Holes’.

The official music video—which he recently shot with a young creative Berlin-based duo called “Heinstoldt”—shows his full band in an aesthetic performance disco set-up, also reminiscent of The Beatles’ last four piece appearance on the roof of Abbey Road Studios in London.

Condensed into five songs, on his Distant Shouts EP Jurek Stricker (Donkey Kid’s real name) reflects on his musical upbringing. His songs start out as Lo-Fi bedroom demos that Jurek likes to casually upload to his Soundcloud profile every now and then. Now, he inexplicably finds himself the centre of attention of Germany’s new indie scene, in a city that overwhelms anyone and anything with its sheer abundance of influence and opportunity.

Singles from the EP are already scoring big support from DSPs on the continent, landing on Spotify’s Top 3 at Indie Brandneu (118k), New Music Friday Deutschland (700k), and New Music Friday Switzerland (30k).

The EP was produced by Marco Kleebauer, who—having worked on the last two iconic albums of Vienna-based band Bilderbuch and his own successful projects like Leyya—long ago made a name for himself as an indie-pop producer of international merit.

Describing the process of working on the EP, Jurek says: “To me, these five songs are a cross-section of last year. They feel like brief insights into different scenes and moments of my life.”

Donkey Kid played his first concerts in the UK supporting Cassia and spent the last summer touring with Ilgen-Nur, Trümmer and Leoniden. His indie-hit-single ‘Deep Blue’ made the cover of Spotify’s “Best of Indie Brandneu 2021” List and was on heavy rotation on many UK student radio stations throughout the year.

Catch the band on the road for upcoming shows as support for Drangsal and Sharktank or a festival show at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in June 2022, with a London, UK headline date on 4th November at The Victoria, Dalston.
