Following the long-awaited release of their debut record, Los Angeles via Dallas, TX indie art rock five-piece About You peels back the curtain on new video for latest track "Master Plan," an indie rock tune that chronicles a big move and trusting the plans of the universe. The band's lush, dynamic debut album The Lighthouse, The Storm is out now. Next month, the band will make an appearance at SXSW in Austin, TX.

Indie rock with influence from power pop and industrial hip hop, "Master Plan" emerged during a roadtrip across the U.S. as Poscente moved out of Boston. The music video was written and directed by Jake Weissman and James Wyatt, the assistant director of Everything Everywhere All At Once. On making the big move, Poscente shares, "It felt exciting–I was trust-falling into the universe because I didn’t have any jobs lined up or housing secured, but I knew I needed to make the move. It was one of the first big investments I ever made in myself and About You."

The move came with struggles, too. Poscente recalls the car breaking down multiple times on the side of the highway. He was gifted a ride and gas by a man named Maurice, who not only shared a name with his grandfather, but was also a Baptist minister like his great grandfather. The musician adds, "If you want to make God laugh, share your plans."

The video, out today, sees Poscente play the main character in his own life as he yearns for a sense of home and belonging. As it progresses, the visual peels back the curtain on the set, complete with green screen, background actors and a film crew. Wyatt adds, "We wanted to make something fun and silly that expands on the meaning of the song but also creates its own little world. Made five years ago with a cast of friends, it feels like it’s a love letter to not knowing where you’re going but trusting the journey & breaking out of the norm to take agency over your life."

The Lighthouse, The Storm, produced by Jeff Saenz, was born from demos dating back to 2019. About halfway through recording at Saenz's Dallas studio Modern Electric in 2021, Saenz suffered a near-fatal accident that led to the amputation of both his hands. Between FaceTime calls and surgeries, the pair continued to create with deep gratitude and a newfound love for each other and life.

On the album, bandleader Max Poscente shares, "In a way, there’s the music we recorded before and after the accident — and to me, they each have their own distinct feeling. While some songs were adaptations of stories people sent in (which is part of why we’re called About You), every song also dealt with deeply personal material. Packed with vulnerability and longing, this album became a recovery vessel for both Jeff and me. Over the next five years, we poured our hearts and souls into it."

The album boasts an accomplished list of musicians including Ian Chang (drums - Son Lux and Moses Sumney), Scott Lee (bass - Texas Gentlemen, Ryan Bingham), Jason Burt (keys, drums programming - Leon Bridges, producer extraordinaire), McKenzie Smith (drums - St. Vincent, Midlake), Scott Tixier (string composer - Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Adele, Hans Zimmer, Beyoncé, Jon Batiste), and Bradley Barteau (Snooper).

Written when Poscente was just 21 and living in Boston, “Sunny” was born out of long winters and suicidal ideation. It sees the musician find hope as it blends raw intimacy, the textural pulse of trip hop, and flashes of hyperpop emotion. Its glitchy drum textures and swelling synths cradle Poscente’s voice as it reaches for warmth beyond despair.

Another album highlight is "Farewell to Ghosts," adapted stories from friends, fans, and strangers into song and a glowing music video. Inspired by a story from an unhoused friend who found strength in their fellow unhoused community, Poscente began writing it alongside the song's feature, Elliott Skinner and completed it with Saenz.

In September, About You shared a video for "What if I Could" that was made with mainstay Wes Anderson collaborators (Gerald Sullivan - Director, Robert Yeoman - Director of Photography, Caris Yeoman - Production Assistant). Made in just two days, the result speaks for itself. The video has rapidly surpassed a half million views.

Ones to Watch writes on the "cinematic" "God Don't Let Me Lose My Mind," "Vulnerability is at the forefront of this track and this raw nature is conveyed through its intense production and sequencing." New Noise Magazine calls the band "homespun, [with] unique style," adding "Farewell to Ghosts"

"[Blends] alt-rock with psychedelic elements and an unbridled energy, the song finds the emotion of someone else’s story and gets it across beautifully."

About You has had a breakout year, earning 617K+ streams in six weeks, 2.4M+ total catalog streams, multiple U.S. headlining tours, and their first sold-out show in Mexico City. Poscente and About You have supported widely beloved indie bands like Big Thief, Andrew Bird, Shakey Graves, Kevin Morby, members of Local Natives, and Greg Freeman. About You has received support from NBC Dallas, EARMILK, LUNA Collective and more, and they're just getting started.
