Zaterdag vond de 8ste editie van de inmiddels razend populaire TMF Awards plaats. Het event vond naar goede gewoonte plaats in een tot de nok gevuld Antwerps Sportpaleis, dat voor de gelegenheid in een futuristisch sfeertje baadde dankzij een strak en stijlvol decor.
Meer dan 16.000 jongeren woonden dit moment suprême van de Belgische showbizz bij dat gepresenteerd werd door VJ’s An en Olli.
Een uiteenlopende cocktail van nationale en internationale sterren maakten hun opwachting langs de red carpet, waaronder de Britse diva Jamelia, het retro meidentrio The Pipettes, de Belgische electro-sensatie Shameboy, en last but not least de Belgian leading ladies Kate Ryan, Katerine, Laura en Hadise.
De tot in de puntjes verzorgde show werd muzikaal opgefleurd met spetterende optredens van o.a. the Freestylers, Bob Sinclar, Daan, the Veronicas en Milk Inc.
De grote winnaar van de avond werd Zornik , die gebukt onder het gewicht van vier TMF Awards naar huis keerde. Koen Buyse & Co mochten het podium beklimmen om de TMF Awards in ontvangst te nemen in de categorieën Best Album Nationaal, Best Male Artist Nationaal, Best Rock Nationaal en Best Live Nationaal.
Ook Katerine keerde huiswaarts met in de ene hand de TMF Award voor Best Female Artist Nationaal en in de andere die voor Best Pop Nationaal. Voor Best Video Nationaal tekende Nailpin die de TMF Award overhandigd kreeg door MTV VJ Otto-Jan Ham en Adriaan Van den Hoof.
Wat internationale artiesten betreft sleepten Kelly Clarkson en Panic! at the Disco elk twee TMF Awards in de wacht, respectievelijk voor Best Female Internationaal/Best Pop Internationaal en voor Best Alternative Internationaal/Best Video Internationaal. Ook de Nederlander Tiësto werd in de bloemetjes gezet met een Totally TMF Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. De onbetwiste nummer één aan het DJ firmament zorgde voor de muzikale apotheose van de avond.
